Hua Hin Thailand

Published by seeking on March 26th, 2012 - in Hua Hin Thailand

The beautiful beaches of Hua Hin(Stone Head), white sands and calm seas with the aromatic punch of freshly cooked seafood carried along with the breeze from Hua Hins restaurants. Two hundred kilometre south of Bangkok in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Hua Hin is a favored resort of the Thai people, a weekend escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok.

Since being constructed in 1926 Klai Kangwon Palace (“far from worries”) in Hua Hin has been home to Thai royalty, today it’s the preferred residence of His Majesty King Bhumibol. Although not open to public viewing the palace is still a major attraction from the outside for most visitors to Hua Hin. Moving on to your choice of residence if the Hilton and Marriott hotels are a touch to expensive for you there are plenty of spa resorts and an abundance of hotels and guesthouses to choose from.

I settled myself into the Araya Hotel in Chomsin Road just a stones throw from the seafront. Although a little overpriced by Thai standards at 1300 baht (24 Euro) the hotel staff were so helpful and friendly I almost checked out with their names tattooed on my arms.

A definition of luxury lifestyle, what exactly is it?

Some people may say, it’s all about the celebrity life. That would imply limo rides, high priced champagne, VIP Passes, jet sets and owning twenty motor vehicles or a lot more.

Some say that not everyone can manage to pay for luxury living. Some people would even go as far as to say that luxury is only for a handful of individuals within our society. Who states that you have to own a Fortune 500 company, or to be born with a golden spoon in your mouth for you to be given the right to live a luxurious life?

Luxury might also be translated into something else – real estate. Owning the most majestic mansions, wonderful estates, huge ranches, or maybe you could start small. Why not invest in a luxury condominium in Thailand?

Dowry in Thailand

Published by seeking on December 10th, 2011 - in Hua Hin Thailand

Introduction To Thai Dowries

A Dowry is traditionally any amount or gift given by the bride to her future groom. In many parts of Asia, however, it is the groom who gives the dowry. Thailand still practices the dowry system, with the groom giving money or gifts to the bride’s family before a marriage is celebrated.

Thai dowry: A brief overview

Thais use the term Sin Sod to refer to the act of giving a dowry to the bride. Sin connotes riches whereas Sod means “to store.” In the earlier years, future grooms present cows, water buffaloes, pigs and other livestock animals as dowries. The more affluent ones even provide farmlands for the family. But with modernity at hand, Thai dowries are now given in monetary form.

Prior to giving dowries, it is a well-known custom in Thailand to perform engagement ceremonies. This is often referred to as the Thong Mun. Literally, Thong Mun means gold engagement. In this event, the soon-to-be bride receives a golden ring from her groom. Thong Mun is somehow similar to the engagement practices of the west. However, in recent years, performing Thong Mun is more of an option. Depending on the couples’ decision, the wedding can push through with or without undergoing Thong Mun.

Why Buy A Condo In Hua Hin?

Published by seeking on August 26th, 2011 - in Hua Hin Thailand

If you are considering moving to Thailand, and buy something in the popular beach town Hua Hin, make sure you read on before making a hasty decision. Many real estate agents and developers will entice you with “cheap” landed properties for sale but having been in the business for some years now, my recommendation is, if you are looking for a return in investment at some point, go for a condo. Why you ask?

For one, over 90% of projects I’ve heard about encounter some sort of building issues somewhere along the line i.e. building standard is too low, workers need more training, the builder is late in delivering promised results, only 1 month guarantee on construction, and many more.

But before I present my obviously biased opinion, let’s look at the Pros and Cons of buying a house vs condo.

House:

Pros:

- Larger Living space

- Private Garden

- Pets allowed

- Easier to do Renovations

Cons:

- More remote location

- Can feel less spacious

- Difficulties in transportation

- Slower Re-sale

Hua Hin Property Rentals

If you are not looking to rent a house in Hua Hin, Thailand, then you will either be renting an apartment or condo. So what is the difference? Well, an apartment is a building owned by a single entity and only for rent, as opposed to a condominium which consists on many units that may be for sale or rent, by different owners.

I find that Hua Hin apartments units also tend to be larger and more spacious than condo units, simply because condominiums are sold for a profit, thus it is only natural that the developer tries to squeeze as many units into one building. I suppose this is the case anywhere on the world and condo units can only get smaller with the rising construction costs.

However, there is a utility surcharge for all Hua Hin apartments that can be quite significant when you total that all up at the end of each month. Electricity charges direct from the M.E.A. is 3.75 baht per unit and apartments tend to charge between 4 – 7 baht per unit depending on the grade of the apartment and the facilities it offers. Apartments usually charge a flat rate for water, around 1000 baht per month which is about a 100% mark up from the actual rate.
