Have You Seen the Best of Bangkok?

Published by seeking on November 10th, 2011 - in Bangkok Thailand

As the capital of Thailand, Bangkok is filled with plenty of things to see and do. It is located in southern Thailand, and as such it benefits from warm temperatures that do not vary too much at any time of the year. That means it pays to make sure you have plenty of water with you as you explore; although, it is a good excuse to keep stopping to admire the view!

So which locations can you see in Bangkok? Well, the Grand Palace is a good start, and while not all of it is open for you to wander into, even the exterior is worth seeing. You can see the Coin Pavilion though, which gives you an insight into all kinds of coins used in the past.

Gold Investment in Bangkok

Published by seeking on October 21st, 2011 - in Thailand Investment

For hundreds of years, gold in Thailand has been used in ornaments, utensils and religious amulets. In ancient times, statues in many Buddhist temples were made of thick golden layers. Wealthy nobles and merchants wore ornaments of bracelets, chains and rings.

When Bangkok was built over 200 years ago, gold was as popular as ever. As Bangkok grew in population and prosperity, small time merchants, mostly of Chinese descent, would purchase chains or bracelets with any spare money, as a hedge against bad times. If conditions got difficult, they would trade the precious chains for cash to continue the business. People who had emigrated from chaos elsewhere to relatively peaceful Bangkok knew firsthand that the bar, not paper, is a true store of value.

Early Bangkok precious metal traders were concentrated in the Yaowarat district of Bangkok, as well as the Silom section by the Chaophraya River. When you visit these two areas, you will still see some old two-story buildings where the ground floor shops, painted bright red, are lined up with glass case cabinets filled will yellow metal chains of all sizes. They also carry rings, bracelets, amulet casings, and pins.

Visit Bangkok – The Capital Of Thailand

Published by seeking on October 4th, 2011 - in Bangkok Thailand

Krung Thep is the Thai name for Bangkok. The Thais never call their beloved capital Bangkok. In fact, it is said that people living in some remote areas of Thailand may not have heard of Bangkok at all. Krung Thep, the capital of Thailand, is located on the east bank of the river Chao Phraya, which is forty kilometers from Gulf of Thailand. The population of the city is around 10,068,000.

Ayutthaya was the old capital of Thailand. After a period of 417 years, the capital was shifted to Bangkok or Krung Thep by King Rama I in 1782. The old capital was the main target of the invading countries and it fought several wars trying to defend its boundaries. King Rama I decided to move the capital city to a more secure place and he decided that nothing could be safer and more secure than Krung Thep. So, the capital was moved to the city of Krung Thep. The King felt that this place would be difficult to penetrate as the enemy armies would have to cross a river to enter the city and this would be difficult for them to do so.

Complete Guide to Do a Visa Run From Bangkok to Cambodia – Cheapest Way

Published by seeking on July 5th, 2011 - in Bangkok Thailand

Just recently, I discovered a cheaper way to do a visa run without the need of an agency. With this, you will be totally on your own. Consider it a travel adventure. It will be an advantage if you speak a bit of Thai, just enough to get by. You must leave from home at 4:30 a.m. if you want to be back in Bangkok in the afternoon as the first bus leaves at exactly 5 a.m. The next bus will be quite full and will return late. So tendency, you will get jammed by the heavy traffic of Bangkok. Just follow the steps below carefully and you’ll be fine:

1. From your home, take a cab and tell the driver to bring you to Central Bangna.

2. The bus going to Cambodia is parked in front of the Big C mall. There is only one bus and you will see people outside the bus but there will be one Thai (normally a lady) holding a ticket with a belt bag. Approach her and she will give you the ticket right away (the 2-way ticket). Pay her the 300 baht and you can get in the bus. Be mindful of the schedule stated in the ticket what time the bus leaves from Cambodia to Bangkok. There are 2 schedules. The first one is at 11 a.m. and the other one is at 1 p.m. If needed, ask the ticket lady. Choose your seat, relax and enjoy the 4-hour road trip. The bus will arrive at the border at 9am.

Bangkok, Gay Friendly Hotels – Where to Find and Stay

Published by seeking on July 3rd, 2011 - in Thailand Nightlife

The popularity of tourism has been growing steadily in Bangkok Thailand. This is true especially for gay and lesbian travelers looking for a holiday in an exotic destination. Bangkok offers some of the best nightlife for alternative lifestyles and finding the right hotel and area to stay in will make your trip more memorable.

When it comes to gay and lesbian nightlife the red light district of Patpong is the place to be. Though Patpong is more well known for go go bars and sex shows the area has always had a strong presence of popular gay bars and clubs.

These widely popular bars and clubs are spread out in several locations in Patpong’s red light district:

Silom Soi 4 and Soi 2
Patpong Soi 2
Soi Pratoochai on Suriwongse Road, also known as Duangthawee Plaza

Though spread out they are all still within a 5 minute walking distance to each other. All of those places can be easily reached by using the BTS and MRT trains if you’re not staying in Patpong. But ideally it’s best to stay in a gay friendly hotel nearby so you won’t have to worry about travel time.

Best Things to Do in Thailand, Beaches Near Bangkok and Andaman

Published by seeking on June 30th, 2011 - in Thailand Beaches

Thailand’s white and turquoise beaches, golden Buddhist temples, bloody history and marketplace culture are loved by both end of the travel budget scale. Some visitors just swing though the country on a beeline to the coast, while some take months meandering though; either way Bangkok, nearby beaches and the islands are some of the best things to do in Thailand.

Most visitors to Thailand fly into Bangkok. Bangkok has a reputation for a lot of different things, but most visitors will want to see the temples, eat and shop in the markets and make time to tour the city in a canal, and these are some of the best things to do in Thailand. Unless you’re a fan of your local red light district you might want to swap a trip to the seedy, now touristy, red light district in favour of some cheap pampering elsewhere.

Underground Nightlife In Bangkok

Published by seeking on June 30th, 2011 - in Thailand Nightlife

Bangkok is by far one of the most exciting places. From Buddhist monuments peppered all over the city to its extravagant malls and endless nightlife, travellers fall in love with Thailand and cannot wait for the day to go back again.

With respect to the nightlife in Bangkok, it is boisterous. There are clubs all over the city where men and women dance the whole night. To bars where men look for women for romance that will last their whole trip, the whole night, a few hours, etc. Women in these bars generally speak a modicum amount of English because they interact with business travelers for a living.

But it is the underground nightlife that many men do no realize. There are sections of Bangkok that are open all night long where men pick up women for a short time for sex. But these sections are very dangerous for travelers because they are not regulated. Many may have AIDS. With established institutions, girls are checked at those massage parlors but not in these underground areas. It is also possible to have sex with underage women which is an illegal act for an American to do. It is not a recommended place to go because of the possible illegal acts and the possibility that you get AIDS.
