Why Thailand?

Published by seeking on December 17th, 2011 - in Thailand News

There are obviously any number of reasons why people choose to visit and possibly settle in Thailand. These reasons could be something very simple: the desire to retire on a limited budget with access to cheap housing and very low living costs. The reasons could also be on a higher plane: the diverse Thai culture, the exotic cuisine, the tropical climate, the friendly people, attractive beaches, or the vibrant nightlife.

There a few places in our world where you can find what Thailand offers. A pleasant climate, delicious food, friendly people, enchanting scenery and very affordable living costs.

Thailand News

Starting with the main considerations for living or retiring in a foreign country, let us explore what Thailand offers.

Access to affordable housing with costs well below what you would need to pay for comparable housing in any western country. Obviously, a luxurious apartment in Bangkok is vastly more expensive than a comfortable and spacious house located somewhere along a sun drenched, tropical beach.
Access to excellent international schools teaching the U.S. or British curriculum. These schools are expensive but there are private schools that teach the Thai curriculum with heavy emphasis on the English language and these are very affordable.
Access to university education. Many local universities have an exchange program with overseas universities whereby a student can complete 50% of the study program in Thailand and then complete the remainder in another country like the U.S., Britain or Australia.
Excellent private health care. The private hospitals in Thailand offer a standard of service that you can only dream about in other western countries. Treatment for minor remedies is cheap, whereas major operations can be very expensive. A private health insurance covering major items is very desirable.
The exposure to Thai culture, history and the Buddhist way of life. Thai history goes back a long way and remnants of different Kingdoms, like Sukothai and Ayudhya, prompt exploration and a challenge to explore their origins. In the northeast, there are the remnants of many ancient Khmer temples and people in some areas still speak the Khmer language.
The exposure to the exotic and aromatic Thai cuisine including the variety of tropical fruits. If in doubt, you could, however, buy food from McDonalds, KFC or Pizza Hut, drink coffee at StarBucks and visit any number of restaurants that serve international food. In fact, very few countries offer such a variety of international food outlets as Thailand.

For those who are more attracted to the physical side of life, here’s what you will find here:

Swimming and sun bathing at sunny tropical beaches, with a choice of crowded tourist beaches or totally deserted beaches. The most popular destinations are the southern islands around Phuket, Koh Chang on the eastern seaboard, and Koh Samui.
The choice of a wide variety of water sports. These include scuba diving, water skiing, deep sea fishing, jet skiing and para sailing.
Year round golf with a wide choice of high quality golf courses. The area around Pattaya offers the cheapest golfing with a choice of 24 courses.
The opportunity for exotic sightseeing Interesting destinations include Kanchanaburi, Chang Mai, the northern area around the “Golden Triangle”, the southern islands, Koh Chang and many others. We should, of course, not forget Bangkok itself.

So, I can hear you say, what are the negatives? There are a few and there is a need to weigh them against the more commonly known attractions.

The language. The Thai language is difficult to learn and there is no doubt the foreigners who cannot speak Thai have to live their lives “on the fringe” of Thai society. For many, this is not a big problem.
While most visitors praise the friendliness and hospitality of the Thai people, there are underlying attitudes that are more complex. Thai people are proud and very protective of what is Thai and what belongs to the Thai people. Never start an argument with a Thai person because you will simply cause resentment. The Thai considers it impolite to show resentment or anger towards another person.
The legal system does not favor foreigners. Thai courts will obviously deliver just and unbiased decisions but complications or disputes will seldom go this far. Disputes are more likely to be resolved without access to legalities. This goes from simple situations like traffic accidents. Here, influence and position often dictate outcomes.

These are observations from living in Thailand for 15 years and only reflect a personal view.

Getting the Best Out of a Phuket Vacation Starts With Patong’s Incredible Nightlife

Published by seeking on November 22nd, 2011 - in Thailand News

The night life in Phuket provides you with endless opportunities. The centre of Phuket nightlife is definitely Bangla Road and its surroundings with numerous, famous Phuket discos. A whole lot of open air bars will open up from midday right up until late evening and many of the night clubs open up from 10pm. There’s a countless number of Phuket bar girls hanging out the watering holes and nightclubs, most bar girls end up in the night clubs once they finish in the bars, music is playing loudly additionally, the selection of intoxicating beverages is broad enough to fit all your preferences! The atmosphere is fantastic.

The best watering holes to drink at are the bars along Bangla Rd good for watching people plus they are a lot more affordable as opposed to larger bars and dance clubs so just pull up a bar chair, purchase a beverage and watch everyone pass you by. Walking along Bangla Rd near the middle you will get to Soi Sea Dragon. If you are looking for this spot your guiding point will a large white-colored dragon in the front door to soi sea dragon the dragon has got blinking eye’s you can’t miss it. Right here you’ll discover approximately 35-40 open air pubs and Go-Go discos, Massage Parlors, a billiards hall as well as several Guesthouse’s. Plenty of people consider the girly bars distasteful. For others it is all a part of the experience and dynamics of the Phuket nightlife, while for most folks it’s the primary reason for going to Patong.

Thailand News

The sex tourism sector in Phuket is nowhere near the level of Bangkok or Pattaya yet it is nevertheless a great attractor for a great number of tourists to Thailand; be they female or male the actual fact of the matter is that there’s not much distinction between a girly bar plus some other bar throughout patong, the truth is that although your not there to pick up a Thai girl. You will still have a lot of fun plus you’ve got to consider it coming from the bar owner’s perspective she or he want you to experience a fantastic time and it’s possible keep coming back the next day. The night life on the isle of Phuket has a great deal to offer, it’s challenging to grasp where to start, there are choices for everybody’s taste weather it’s just a great meal and some live music on the beach or possibly a crazy evening in the bars and night clubs on Bangla road be certain you will discover whatever it is that you will be searching for in phuket and most probably at 50 % the amount you’d pay back home. There’s no doubt that the best thing about phuket is the friendly feeling and how folks will go out of their way to aid you and make certain that you have a wonderful time. And one of the nicest details tends to be that regardless of what someone’s circumstances are they’ll still have a smile on their face such a beautiful understanding I wish the rest of the world would follow suit.

Patong certainly is the party hub of Phuket Night life it’s a 24 / 7 town you are able to drink and play billiards with the young women throughout the day and all night if you want but just remember that it will catch up with you. The shutting time for bars is about 3:30am but many bars will allow you to drink later if you want to most of the dance clubs in Patong will stay open till the sun arises. A number of people are under the misconception that Thailand is a hazardous area this could not be further from the truth I have lived here for 6 years now and I have not had any problems whatsoever. Last year Thailand had some bad press because the problems that have been taking place in Bangkok and also due to the fact bad news sells and the press likes to get their claws in to anything that may sell a news paper.

During the drive to Mom’s nursing home, I found myself undecided whether or not to tell her of dad’s passing. She probably wouldn’t understand, but I couldn’t be sure of that. Who knows what goes on in the minds of people in her condition? But if by chance she did understand, the news would be devastating, and take everything away from her that she had left.

She always loved him, regardless of the difficult life she had. I could always see it in her eyes. I asked a nurse what she thought about the situation, and she replied that it wouldn’t hurt to tell her, that she wouldn’t understand anyway. So the nurse and I walked in together to see Mom.

Thailand News

My mother was sitting there, but she wasn’t staring at the wall… she was looking directly at me! Her dark, brown eyes pierced my soul, as she slowly raised her hand to her forehead and made the sign of the cross.

I stopped dead in my tracks. My blood ran cold and chills ran up and down my spine; something supernatural was taking place… she already knew that dad was gone. I stared at her in disbelief, and just that quickly, she looked away as if nothing had happened and fell back into her self-enclosed world.

I glanced at the nurse, whose face had turned white, and asked her if she had ever seen anything like that. She just shook her head and raised her eyebrows.

I sat by Mom’s side and went through the motions of telling her about dad’s final moments; his last words, but she showed no interest or recognition whatsoever, and when the nurse brought in her tray, she ate as if I wasn’t there. She didn’t live too long after this.

Janet returned from the U.K. (over my protests) and we eventually moved from Johnstown to Winchester, Virginia, hoping for a better chance for employment, even though none of these small Appalachian towns could offer much. Winchester was only an hour’s drive from the Bhavana Society and Bhante G, who was just over the line in West Virginia and a couple of hours from my mother’s nursing home in Pennsylvania, so we were able to deepen our practice and at the same time keep an eye on Mom.

We convinced a property manager to take a chance on us in the way of a small apartment, which wasn’t easy with our spotty history, Janet’s shiny bald head, and driving the old, rusty Toyota that mystically kept going for us. We didn’t have much stuff either, so we cruised garage sales and thrift stores to get a few things together, like a phone to keep in touch with the nursing home. Luckily, we were accustomed to sleeping on bare, wooden floors in Thailand, so sleeping on a carpeted floor was a treat.

Whenever we found ourselves separated from Theravada monasteries, day jobs were required to pay the bills; nobody was there to back us up. Only in very spiritual countries, and small growing pockets of awareness here in the States, are meditators looked upon as valuable assets, and supported to one degree or another. Because Janet and I were married, however, Bhante G insisted that we live in town rather than at the Bhavana Society, and we understood this. In Thailand, it’s okay to be married, because in Thailand there is more room to support spiritual couples, where each can stay in a separate monastery, or separated in a large monastery.

But we weren’t in Thailand, we were back in the good old U.S. of A. where only the brightest, healthiest, most ambitious, and most successful are respected. Serenity and peace have little value at all, and are laughable to those caught up in the drive and ambition that are its present day American sacraments. I couldn’t complain, however; this country is free and full of opportunity, more than any other, but I couldn’t help feel that our heads overrule our hearts here, and that someday this imbalance of wisdom over compassion would spell trouble.

Our interests were not about money but about our practice of digging out the greed, hatred, and delusion that still resided in our hearts – the root cause of society’s problems as well. Over 50 % of the world’s children go to bed hungry every night, and it’s not due to lack of food; it’s due to the greed and ideological hatred of the power hungry and money hungry leaders. Although our practice was now stable regardless of what we became involved with, our hearts yearned to do something connected to meditation, rather than the day jobs we needed to survive. But I couldn’t leave Mom alone to fend for herself, and made a vow to hold her hand when she died. I had to stay close.

Vacation Rentals in Abaco

Published by seeking on November 9th, 2011 - in Thailand News

Elbow, Lubbers Quarters, Treasure, Little Harbor…these are a few names that you’ll come to know should you decide to visit the portion of the Bahamas known as Abaco. This archipelago offers a bit of everything – including intriguingly named Cays – without any of the overcrowding that sometimes occurs in the Caribbean. And, by going the extra mile and reserving a vacation home, success as a whole is virtually guaranteed no matter which isle you set your sights on.

Let’s start out on Treasure Cay, in a split-level town home with turquoise accents, to be exact. A mere 100 yards from the beach, this stellar and (and not atypical) example of a vacation rental will welcome you to the island as if you’re an old friend coming home for a visit. This feeling of familiarity and comfort will persist throughout the trip, so embrace at as soon as possible.

Thailand News

With a friendly living room, large patio facing the shoreline, warm and well-equipped kitchen and cute accent pieces, a basic level of comfort will immediately be established. Further investigation of each room, closet, drawer and corner will cement the sensation that all is right with the world, and that you have made a good decision indeed. Nothing is better than having plenty of room for everyone in your party – not just in terms of sleeping arrangements but speaking of elbow room, too. This property not only has a sleeping loft with four beds in addition to the two private bedrooms, but it has plenty of sofas and lounging space as well.

In terms of available activities, snorkeling the great reef, swimming, boating, and island hopping are all just a few moments away. Whether you’re the type who likes to draft a detailed itinerary or the complete opposite, everything will certainly fall into place in Abaco. With a vacation rental as your home base, a certain buffer zone exists as well. You know those in-between moments? The naps, the “downtime” and the quiet interludes will be somehow just as pleasurable as the thrilling activities thanks to the positive presence of your temporary abode.

Many people find the high-quality sleep that eludes them each night readily arrives in Abaco, partly due to the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze and partly due to the comfortable bed in their beach villa. It could be mental, too; after all, even though most properties contain WiFi and televisions, you don’t have to tune into the news of the world if you don’t want to. Make it a true escape by leaving everything behind except your high expectations of what a wonderful trip should be.

Abaco and the islands that it consists are a bit of a Caribbean secret. Deserted beaches aren’t just a fantasy, the vibes are easygoing rather than frenetic, and there’s more to do and see than you’ll be able to fit into even a lengthy trip. Arrive ready to cast aside all stress and any memories you have of past vacations gone awry.

So no matter which Cay you settle upon, no matter which type of vacation rental you choose to claim as your own, proceed with the confidence that the Abaco Islands will be everything you’re hoping for. Lots of different factors go into the making of a top-notch getaway, but starting with an important one, a Abaco Vacation Rental, is a step in the right direction.

Development of Solar Energy Potential Maps from Satellite Data for Thailand

Published by seeking on October 26th, 2011 - in Thailand News

In this project, solar radiation maps of Thailand were developed using satellite data and ground based meteorological data. Digital data from the visible channel of the GMS4 and GMS5 satellites collected during a 6 year-period (1993-1998) were used in this work. The data displayed as images cover the whole area of Thailand with a spatial resolution of 5×5 km². These images were transformed to the cylindrical projection and then navigated using coastline as reference. The post-launched calibration tables were employed to convert gray levels of satellite data into the earth-atmospheric albedo. A physical model was selected for computing solar radiation based on this earth-atmospheric albedo. The surface albedo and the absorption and scattering coefficients of various atmospheric constituents were also determined and used in the model.

For testing its validity, the model was used to calculate monthly average daily global solar radiation at four solar monitoring stations situated in four provinces: Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Songkhla and Nakhon Pathom. The results obtained from the model agree well with those of the measurement, with discrepancies for most cases being less than 5 %. Then the model was used to compute monthly average daily global solar radiation for the whole country. The results are presented as maps showing the distribution of solar radiation over the country.

Thailand News

The monthly average daily global solar radiation maps show that the distribution of solar radiation is influenced by the north-east and south-west monsoons. Most parts of the country receive highest solar radiation during April and May, with the values ranging from 20 to 24 MJ/m²-day. The yearly average daily global solar radiation map demonstrates that the regions which receive highest solar radiation are in the north-east and the central parts of country, covering parts of the provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, Roiet, Yasothon, Ubon, Ratchatani, Udonthani, Suphanburi, Chainat, Ayuttaya and Lopburi. These regions which receive the yearly average daily radiation of 19-20 MJ/m²-day represent 14.3% of the total area of the country. It is found that 50.2% of the area of the country receive the yearly average daily global solar radiation in the range of 18-19 MJ/m²-day and only 0.5% receive radiation less than 16 MJ/m²-day. The yearly average daily global solar radiation for the whole country is found to be 18.2 MJ/m²-day.

These results indicate that Thailand has fairly high solar energy potentials.

View Talay 1 Buildings A & B Condominium – Apartment Rental in Jomtien Pattaya Thailand

Published by seeking on October 23rd, 2011 - in Thailand News

Currently there are 8 View talay projects in Jomtien and Pattaya. With View talay 8 due to be completed by the middle of 2010. So I thought it was time to look once again at where it all started some 15 years ago with View talay 1.

This condominium complex was the first to be built and when finished was an instant success. As one of the first modern condominium complexes in Jomtien Pattaya its designers introduced many interesting features such as shopping areas on the ground floor of both buildings and a large swimming pool sat between them. The pool is much larger than most other condominium projects in Pattaya and there is also a restaurant area serving food and refreshments. Being surrounded by shrubbery and palm trees the pool has a very relaxed feel about it

Thailand News

View talay 1 is a 15 story building and from the mid to high floors gives good views of Jomtien and Pattaya. The standard room size is 32sqm. Many owners have bought rooms side by side so it is possible to rent 64 and 96 sqm apartments.

In the last two years both buildings 1A and 1B have under gone a complete refurbishment program, with many improvements both inside and outside been undertaken. All this is good news if you’re looking to rent an apartment in Jomtien Pattaya. View talay’s 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 are all more expensive to rent because they are newer and offer slightly bigger room sizes but View talay 1 since its refurbishment is equally as pleasant to stay and if your budget is not vast well worth considering. Below is a list of pro’s and con’s and when you consider the difference in price View talay 1 is not so bad at all as a holiday rental.

Con’s:

15 minute walk to the beach

Room size: 32sqm

Pro’s:

Relatively cheap rent

Large swimming pool

24hr Security

Key card entry

Easy access to Pattaya

Newly refurbished

Children’s play area

Various shops and internet

Car and motor bike hire

The cost of renting a 32sqm apartment in View talay 1 varies between 7500Baht to 15000Baht for something special. Compare that to renting a 48sqm apartment say in View talay 5 at 18 – 23000Baht a month.

Location, location, location. Yes location is important. View talay 1 may not be as close to the beach as some others but you do have easy access to the baht buses that pass by the main entrance every few minutes. From the entrance you can walk down to the beach at Jomtien. No more than 15 minutes or! For just 10Baht, catch a Baht bus and be at Jomtien beach in less than 5 minutes. By baht bus from the main entrance, Pattaya is only 10 minutes away. Yes location is important and View talay 1 is in one of the best.

If you plan to travel with kids, you want to plan well. Otherwise, your trip may turn into chaos and frustration. Advance planning will keep everyone busy. It will also improve the experience for the whole family.

It is a good idea to bring your kids to toys store, before you start taking a trip. You do not need to spend a lot of money. You can take them to a dollar toys store, and you can buy them a collection of small cheap toys such as travel games. Let them have the toys on the plane or in the car. It will keep them busy, and they will not keep asking, “Are we there yet?” Avoiding boredom is the key to keep everyone happy.

Thailand News

You should also plan regular breaks, if it is possible. Everyone wants a chance to stretch. You may want to plan out your route in advance. You want to find cool stops along the way for the children. If you can not find anything, you may consider stopping at supermarkets for snacks .If you are on a plane, you can walk up and down the aisles.

Seating arrangements can make all the difference. It is wise to pair up children with adults. So the adults can supervise children. If children sit too closed to each other, they may also start fighting.

Driving games that involve spotting objects are great on the road. They keep the whole family occupied.

Find at least one major stop of just kids. You want to give them something to look forward to make special experience for the whole family.

In Defence Of Aljazeera TV Live Programs On Your PC Or Laptop

Published by seeking on September 19th, 2011 - in Thailand News

Aljazeera TV live programs are a source of worry for the United States Government etc, because Aljazeera TV Live programs seem to be the mouth piece of Al-qaeda group and a host of other so called terrorist groups, especially now that you can watch any satellite TV station on your PC or Laptop free. For instance, after the disappearance of Bean Laden from Afghanistan, Aljazeera TV live programs became his mouth piece of sorts.

But the position of Aljazeera TV in this matter is simple. They are in business to disseminate information, just like CNN TV live , Zee TV live, Dubai TV live, CNBC TV live and Thailand TV live programs.

Thailand News

“Terrorists” and all other organizations that are looking for the medium for expressing their views find ample opportunity in live TV stations to bring to the notice of the world current affairs, actions and other information they want the people to know about.

Aljazeera as a commercial organization puts its business interest and long term survival first before other considerations, such as the position of the United States Government on issues bothering on terrorism.

As things stand today, because of Aljazeera’s location and business sentimentality, it can be concluded by the United States Government that Aljazeera TV live serves the purpose of “terrorist” by providing undue avenue for “terrorist” to champion unjust courses.

However, live TV broadcasts have come to stay, and since being first to report news is the ingredient that makes a satellite TV station thick, I don’t see how Aljazeera TV live will soon come short of any thickness in reporting breaking news, nor will the “terrorist” stop using the opportunity offered by Aljazeera TV live.

You can watch Aljazeera TV live, Zee TV live, Dubai TV live, CNBC TV live and Thailand TV live for breaking news, and various other interesting programs as live Tv webcast with Internet television software on your PC or Laptop wherever you are in the world anytime.

2012 Non-Survival Guide

Published by seeking on June 30th, 2011 - in Thailand News

So you don’t want to survive 2012?

No problem, I am here to help. There are a few of you not going about this the right way so I will teach you how to NOT survive 2012 in three easy steps:

Thailand News

1. Ignore the disasters in the news.

2. Do not prepare at all.

3. Go on a coastal getaway on December 21st 2012.

Step 1:

Many of you have perfected this step already. Basically you must ignore all the mounting catastrophes in the news; the Thailand tsunami, Katrina, Chile, Haiti, Japan and all the other events. Chalk it all down to plain old bad luck. A good tip is to delude yourself. That way you’ll feel more at ease while you continue to remain ignorant. Something along the lines of this is good: ‘the worst is over, it’s just plain sailing from here!’.

However, I must warn you. You may encounter interference at this first hurdle; in the form of loved ones, friends and neighbours. They will say things like; ‘open your eyes’ and ‘at least accept it COULD happen’. You must ignore them. In fact not only that, you must also call them ‘idiots’ or ‘stupid’. Be creative. Don’t be afraid to add a few profanities here and there to strengthen your argument. Shout your way to victory!

Step 2:

This step is the easiest of all. Just go about your business. Continue to do food shopping weekly and don’t even think about buying extra! You don’t want to survive do you? Good. Then don’t buy any emergency supplies that could save your family’s life in case you run out of food or water. Like the previous step, this step also adds no cost to your expenditure!!! The only cost is just a lump sum payment during the 2012 period: your life. Deal of the century.

Step 3:

Step three is tricky but still doable for many of you. You should have enough money saved from not preparing to book a holiday to a nice coastal region. If not, you can re-mortgage your house or spend your life savings…after all, you won’t need them where you’re going. Make sure you arrive on or before December 21st 2012! You don’t want to be late and miss your death date. Be prompt and there will be no reason you can’t go out ‘riding the wave’ (no pun intended).

That concludes the 2012 Non-Survival Guide. Hopefully, if you follow these steps you will have no problem not surviving.

However, if this is not what you’re looking for and you actually WANT TO SURVIVE please click on the link below and have a read.

Water Pollution in Thailand – Size of the Problem

Published by seeking on June 27th, 2011 - in Thailand News

Thailand is one of the fast growing countries in Asia nowadays. Economic experts assure that the rates of Thai economic growth are quite impressive. However, the development of industry comes at another cost; pollution. Water pollution is increasingly recognized as a threat to the civilization that Thailand witnesses.

It has always been agreed that the degree of water pollution is directly proportionate to the degree of industrial development. Over the past 10 years, scientists have observed an increase in the level of toxic substances detected in water samples taken from Thailand shores. The surface water is now contaminated with more bacteria which can increase the possibility of infection. The possibility of bacterial epidemic outbreaks has never been higher. Water pollution in Thailand shows an increased incidence of typhoid, hepatitis C and cholera outbreaks.

Thailand News

Sewage disposal is another element contributing to the water pollution in Thailand. Thailand witnesses an expanding urban community which yields more sewage disposal that is continuously polluting the water surfaces. Sewage disposal can pollute water with nitrite, sulfur and ammonium salts that can have serious health consequences. Moreover, sewage waste products have been proved to affect aquatic life as increased mortality of fish is recorded to result from sewage disposal.

Nowadays, Thailand is a country that is headed by tourists from every corner of the globe. However, littering of beaches and sea shores is continuously repelling tourists. Many beaches are crowded and this contributes to more littering which is affecting the health of both tourists and residents. A view that is rather annoying to almost everyone is a beach with cans of soda and candy wrappers almost on every square meter of sand.

The Thai government is putting now more effort than ever to combat water pollution which is increasingly recognized as a major health problem. Media are enlightening citizens about the problem and solutions they can offer to solve this national disaster. Laws are legislated to punish factories and business owners who insist on disposing their waste products in the sea. Youth and teenagers are encouraged to volunteer in anti- pollution campaigns and tasks. The government is even paying teenagers who participate in cleaning beaches.

Thailand pictures reflect a civilization that has been growing to become one of Asia’s biggest industrial powers. However, industrial development is coming at a rather high cost which is water pollution. Water pollution has been increasingly observed in Thailand over the past ten years. Sewage disposal, industrial waste products and bacterial contaminations are amongst the biggest contributors to water pollution in Thailand.
